Gamerpic, profile pic (or pfp) or display pic, whatever you want to call it, is representative of that one image that captures someone’s identity in the digital world. Sure, we have different photos for different platforms (and no, we don’t have to limit ourselves to stock options). It would hardly be appropriate if your boring, professional LinkedIn photo were also used on your Xbox profile. But that’s ultimately your choice, and unfortunately, it seems Microsoft couldn’t give you that choice on Xbox at all.

Until recently, we had to choose an image from their stock for reasons that are certainly valid (like too high a server load), but which are unjustifiable if this is not the norm.

Thankfully, Microsoft has finally gotten a handle on the situation and has reopened the option to upload a custom image. This means that users can now create their gamer profile on their own terms, in whatever way they want. Here’s a look at how to change your gamer or pfp on the Xbox app.

Before we begin, make sure you have the custom gamerpic you want to use ready with a resolution of 1080×1080. You will also need a USB storage device such as a pen drive which should be connected to the Xbox, unless you plan on uploading your profile picture using OneDrive. In that case, you won’t need the USB. Let’s get started.
