According to a new report from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, Ubisoft FPS XDefiant's numerous delays may have been caused by "missed deadlines, busyness, a toxic work environment, and multiple people leaving the project."

In the report, anonymous sources spoke of a “Boys Club” consisting of “several executives and directors” of the project, who were the source of the main problems that caused the game to miss several internal development milestones in recent years.
"Initially, 'The Boys Club' was the name given to a select group of individuals who were consistently causing problems for the game's development, and the term was collectively agreed upon by a few members of the team as a sense of camaraderie," Henderson said. "But over the course of a few years, that group grew to a dozen or so, both male and female individuals, and the term evolved into something much more acrimonious within the studio."
It has reportedly gotten so bad that the "unnecessary changes" implemented by the aforementioned club have added an estimated two years to the game's development time. The source pointed to a lack of work ethic, egos and inexperienced employees "given directorial powers based on personal friendships" causing problems within the development teams.
