What is an XTM file and how do I open it?

A file with the file extension XTM is most likely an exported CmapTools map. These files use the XML format to store images and text for use in the IHMC CmapTools (concept map tools) software.

The Xtremsplit software also uses XTM files, but they have nothing to do with maps. Instead, they are used to split a large file into smaller pieces and then stick the pieces back together so they can be sent online more easily.

If your XTM file is a map, it can be opened on Windows, macOS, and Linux with the IHMC CmapTools software. This software is used to express concepts in a graphical flowchart form.
