Yahoo Messenger was an instant messaging service from Yahoo that was available through a smartphone app for mobile devices and via the web and a software program for desktop users.
The Dark Truth Behind Yahoo! Messenger
The service was shut down by Yahoo on July 17, 2018. However, it is not the only IM client available; there are numerous alternatives to Yahoo Messenger that work in essentially the same way.
The Yahoo Messenger app was much like other messaging apps. It allowed you to send free text messages to your friends over the internet, and it worked across platforms. This meant that you could install the app on your phone or tablet, or open it on your computer, and send free text messages without having to pay for a texting service.
In addition to text, there was also support for other things, such as GIFs, images, emoticons and other files. As long as you had a valid internet connection, whether it was via Wi-Fi or a mobile data plan, you could communicate with friends and family completely free of charge.
