If you have a Family Sharing subscription for all of your Apple services, you can now share in-app purchases (IAPs) and subscriptions with family members. Third-party apps will need to opt in for the feature to work, and many already have.
You’ve always been able to share app purchases, but now anything you pay for within an app can be shared, including subscriptions. IAP sharing joins all the other Family Sharing services, like iCloud storage, TV and Arcade subscriptions, and Apple News+. This is a huge deal and could potentially save you a ton of money. But what about the developers? Aren’t they going to pay out of pocket?
James Abeler, founder and CEO of Firecore, maker of the excellent video app Infuse, doesn't think so.
"Family Sharing for subscriptions and in-app purchases is something that many developers have been eagerly awaiting since Apple rolled out expanded subscriptions at WWDC 2016," Abeler told Lifewire via direct message. "This is optional for developers, and while some may choose not to take advantage of it, there is no downside to having these new options available. Kudos to Apple for finally making it possible."
