Electric cars are so outdated that manufacturers are now turning to unusual forms of battery-powered transportation.
I thought electric cars were the future. I changed my mind
Winnebago Industries has just unveiled its new electric recreational vehicle (RV) concept. Companies are working on everything from electric airships to electric and autonomous rail vehicles. It’s all part of an effort to reduce pollution by providing alternatives to gas-guzzling cars.
“Conventional fuels used in these vehicles often produce greenhouse gases and other pollutants that are harmful to human health and the environment,” Ramteen Sioshansi, an engineering professor at Ohio State University and IEEE Fellow who studies electric vehicles, told Lifewire in an email interview. “It can be challenging to develop other liquid fuels that don’t have these properties. Switching to electricity eliminates these emissions.”
The typical RV only gets 6-10 miles per gallon, which can quickly get expensive when fuel costs are high. But Winnebago claims to have a solution with its new electric RV.
