"Say" is a Terminal command that tells your Mac to speak whatever you type after the command. Try it out by launching Terminal (Finder > Applications > Utilities), then typing the following into the command line:
This command will have your Mac say the word "hello" or whatever you type after the first "say" command.
You can also specify which voice your Mac should use when it speaks using the -v attribute. For example:
