Google has begun approaching some YouTube TV subscribers about a TiVo Stream 4K giveaway, in what some suspect is a response to the company's current beef with Roku.
How to Use YouTube TV on TiVo Stream 4K!
The promotion, discovered by 9to5Google, gives YouTube TV subscribers the opportunity to get their hands on the normally $40 TiVo or $50 Chromecast devices for free, though as 9to5Google notes, Google has given away Chromecast with Google TV in the past. It's currently unclear if this promotion will be available to all YouTube TV subscribers or a select few. Selected YouTube TV subscribers will receive an email with a unique code to use in the TiVo Store.
The TiVo Stream 4K features the Google Assistant, a voice-activated remote, support for 4K UHD, Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos, and offers Chromecast built-in. It also supports a number of streaming apps, including Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, Showtime, Peacock, and more. It normally retails for $39.99, but is currently on sale for $29.99 for those who may not be able to take advantage of the current promotion.
There is speculation that Google's decision to run this promotion could be related to the ongoing dispute with Roku, which began in late April when Roku dropped YouTube TV. Roku claims that Google made unreasonable demands and intentionally manipulated search results, while Google accused Roku of demanding "special treatment" and acting like a bully. One theory is that this promotion could be retaliation against Roku for blocking the YouTube TV app.
