The 49th Toronto International Film Festival today announced its full schedule of galas and special presentations. The event is a disaster, having been launched last year after an actors' strike, with the rights to 29 titles up for sale.
Among the films making their world premiere is the Angelina Jolie-directed war drama Without Blood, starring Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir and based on the novel by Alessandro Baricco. There's also Mike Leigh's first film in six years, Hard Truths, starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste, which is billed as a "continuing exploration of the contemporary world through a tragicomic study of human strengths and weaknesses."
