A vacation episode is a staple of any network sitcom — and for good reason. It gives the writers a break from the grind of producing 22 episodes of new stories and a familiar format for the audience.

Happy Leap Day! (Feat. Jim Carrey) | 30 Rock

Leap Day falls more into a liminal space between a regular day and a holiday, but that hasn't stopped sitcom writers from wringing out a storyline about "leaping" birthdays and Santa Claus-style mythical figures who show up every four years. And what better genre to tackle something that doesn't come around once a year than comedy, especially with hits like 30 Rock , Frasier (which, now that it's back and will be back even more often, could do so again ), and others?

We've rounded up the best Leap Day-themed sitcom episodes to ring in the arrival of February 29th. These episodes might be worth rewatching before 2028!

By far the most utterly deranged take on the concept of Leap Day, this episode follows Liz (Tina Fey), Jack (Alec Baldwin), Tracy (Tracy Morgan), and the rest of the cast and writers as they celebrate Leap Day as if it were an actual holiday, complete with a figure named "Leap Day William" who emerges from the Mariana Trench (?) to drink children's tears (???) and a fake movie starring Jim Carrey and Andie MacDowell. This episode is so off-the-wall that Liz being offered $20 million to take someone's virginity before being shadowed by a procession of Victoria's Secret models isn't even the fifth most interesting thing that happens.
