CBS's 48 Hours episode "Cold-Blooded Killer" reexamines the murder of Mike Williams, whose now-convicted killers eluded justice for nearly two decades. The upcoming episode premieres Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 9:00 p.m. ET on the network. A synopsis reads: "A father goes hunting in a Florida lake and disappears. Many thought he was eaten by alligators — not his mother. Seventeen years later, stunning revelations in court: It was murder."

In December 2000, Mike Williams, a married father from Florida, went duck hunting alone in Lake Seminole and never returned. For years, investigators speculated that Williams tragically drowned in the swampy lake, since his remains were never found. They believed that heavy alligator activity in and around the area indicated that reptiles had eaten him.

While Mike Williams’ family continued to fight for justice, 17 years later authorities made a breakthrough and discovered who his real killers were. Williams’ best friend, Brian Winchester, confessed to killing him in exchange for immunity. Additionally, Winchester implicated the victim’s then-wife, Denise Williams, with whom he was having an affair. Denise went on trial in 2019 and was convicted.
