In April 2023, HBO announced that it had ordered the series, tentatively titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. The prequel, which was ordered to series in April 2023, is based on novellas written by George R. R. Martin. During the February 2024 Warner Bros. Discovery earnings call, CEO David Zaslov revealed that the prequel is currently in pre-production.
