Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has called on Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, arguing that he has “serious concerns” that the president cannot win.
Rep. Adam Schiff calls on Biden to withdraw from presidential race
“President Biden has been one of the most influential presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as senator, vice president, and now president has made our country better,” Schiff said in a statement, first reported by the Los Angeles Times. “But our country is at a crossroads. A second Trump presidency will undermine the foundation of our democracy, and I have grave concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
“While the choice to retire is President Biden’s alone, I believe it is time for him to pass the torch. And in doing so, secure his leadership legacy by enabling us to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.”
Schiff made it clear that he would support the Democratic nominee regardless of who that was, even if Biden remained in the race.
