“Let us include such voices and contributions in the life of our parish communities,” he said at the National Assembly of Parish Priests for the Synod held this week.
The Prelate pointed out that the Church needs the boldness of the laity “to promote participation in our parish communities.”
“The dedicated lay preacher who crosses jungles and rivers to reach remote areas and leads Sunday liturgy, the pious mamamasan and voyador who brave the crowds to touch the image of the Nazareno and the Virgen de Peñafrancia, the patient faithful who wait for hours under the sun for their turn to reach the Santo Niño, the vigilant PPCRV (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting) volunteer who keeps the polls sacred despite threats and bribes, the honest public servant who remains fair and honest despite the prevalence of corruption, and the OFW (overseas Filipino worker) who ventured to new lands to find food for their families – all these manifest boldness of faith, prophetic boldness to participate in the building of the Kingdom,” he cited.
