Oscar Isaac talks about the dance sequence in Ex Machina
Jake Gyllenhaal nearly landed a lead role in Alex Garland's Oscar-winning debut film Ex Machina after the filmmaker and his longtime producer, Andrew Macdonald, were pressured to consider the actor to secure financing.
“The sales companies wanted us to cast Jake Gyllenhaal because he was a good candidate and they could sell foreign territories,” Macdonald said during a Q&A with Garland at this year's Edinburgh Film Festival yesterday afternoon.
“That would have changed the whole movie,” Macdonald continued, adding that negotiations with Gyllenhaal's representatives ultimately didn't get very far.
