'Election' Sequel in the Works from Reese Witherspoon & Alexander Payne | THR News
Two-time Academy Award winner Alexander Payne ("The Holdovers") previewed the upcoming sequel to his beloved black comedy "Election" in Sarajevo on Sunday, while elaborating on his desire to delve into the genre. He shared more details about an upcoming Western and also expressed his hope "to make a good car chase movie."
Payne, who is appearing at the Sarajevo Film Festival to accept a lifetime achievement award, provided an update on the anticipated sequel to his 1999 film adaptation of Tom Perrotta's novel, starring Reese Witherspoon as the ruthless Tracy Flick.
Paramount is reportedly developing a sequel for streaming service Paramount+, “Tracy Flick Can’t Win,” based on Perrotta’s sequel novel, due for release in 2022, with Witherspoon reprising her iconic role and Payne attached to direct.
