Algerian boxer Imane Khelif wins gold at Olympics, overshadowed by gender feud • FRANCE 24
Algerian welterweight Imane Khelif recently said that the best response to the misplaced criticism and bullying she has received would be to win gold in Paris. Mission accomplished.
Today, Khelif won gold in her weight class at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, defeating China's Yang Liu with a unanimous 5-0 victory.
Khelif’s time at the Olympics has been clouded by controversy, with some questioning whether she is a man. The boxer is a woman, and the confusion stems from the fact that she was disqualified by the International Boxing Association last year for allegedly having XY chromosomes. However, the IOC disputed those claims and allowed Khelif to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, as she did at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
