Fede Álvarez says Disney resisted the final act of Alien: Romulus.
Alien Romulus Ending Explained By The Director
Alien: Romulus was released in theaters in the United States this past weekend. The film is directed by Álvarez and stars Cailee Spaeny as Rainn.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter , Álvarez discussed how Alien: Romulus, like his previous films, has a fourth act. This fourth act introduces a human-Xenomorph hybrid creature known as "the Offspring," and Álvarez says he initially faced some resistance from Disney about the idea.
"They did push back [in the beginning] [regarding the Offspring], but it wasn't because they didn't like it," he explained. "They just thought, 'Is it too much? Do we really need to go there?' And I thought, 'Yeah, now that you're saying don't do that, I know I will.' So that's exactly what we did here. If you get an Alien movie from a company that's owned by Disney and they immediately say, 'Yeah, let's make that,' you're going to fail in some way. So we really pushed it to the limit, and I'm glad we did."
