There's nothing wrong with Paul WS Anderson's Alien vs. Predator , but there's also nothing particularly memorable about it. As a glorified piece of fan fiction, this monster mash-team-up gets the job done with efficiency and style, even establishing some interesting lore for the legendary aliens. Extra points for having the audacity to use James Cameron's Alien Queen , even if it ranks lower on our list of Alien movies.
Unashamedly morbid and dark — literally and figuratively — The Brothers Strause's heavily R-rated sequel to Anderson's lackluster AvP is a tacky but occasionally fun slasher that makes the most of its iconic creatures, particularly the Predator. On the downside, the cast features a handful of forgettable TV actors who fail to make an impression. Still, AvP: R delivers on some slick set pieces and goes all out on the sadism, murdering children and pregnant women before bombing a city full of civilians.
