The film also stars Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange Is the New Black) and Daphne Rubin-Vega (In the Heights). The film centers on Daisy (Rodriguez), a Brooklyn restaurateur excited about the prospect of finally becoming a mother, who welcomes her young surrogate mother into her home for the final weeks of her pregnancy, blind to the enormous risk she’s taking—and the secret the troubled young woman is hiding. Meanwhile, sister Ida (Colón-Zayas), a counselor at a local clinic trying to keep others on the straight and narrow, begins to feel the emotional pull of their long-estranged brother, leading to a life-changing discovery. And sister-in-law Serene (Rubin-Vega), who’s making a living as a vocal coach and reliving her former glory days, soon realizes her daughter is making money in a very dangerous way, sending the former pop star into fight mode to save her only child from the kind of youthful mistakes she once made.
Allswell in New York premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Festival, where it won Best Screenplay in a U.S. Narrative Feature Film.
