American Murder: Laci Peterson | Official Trailer | Netflix
In December 2002, a woman named Laci Peterson disappeared from her home in Modesto, California. According to reports, she was eight months pregnant at the time of her disappearance. For months, investigators tried to locate Laci and suspected her husband, Scott Peterson. In April 2003, authorities discovered Laci's decomposed body on the shoreline of Point Isabel. After finding the body, investigators traveled to San Diego to arrest Peterson.
The case is explored in depth in the Netflix documentary series American Murder: Laci Peterson, which reveals that police discovered Laci Peterson's body on April 14, 2003. At the time, investigators learned that Scott Peterson was in San Diego, which is less than an hour's drive from the Mexican border. That's one reason they wanted to monitor his movements.
The documentary also noted that Peterson was living with his sister Susan in San Diego and wanted to play golf with some family members. However, police began tracking his vehicle when he drove recklessly. The documentary quoted an investigator as saying, "He [Scott Peterson] drives worse than any drug dealer I've ever followed. He drives so bad, even a helicopter lost him."
