'Scarface' actor Ángel Salazar dies at age 68
Ángel Salazar, who played Chi Chi in “Scarface,” died on August 11, his representative Roger Paul confirmed to Variety. He was 68.
Salazar played Tony Montana's (Al Pacino) henchman in the 1983 cult classic, where he teams up with the drug lord to rise to the top of Miami's cocaine scene. Chi Chi saves Tony in the famous chainsaw scene, where he is nearly killed by rival gang leader Hector (Al Israel).
Towards the end of the film, Chi Chi attempts to fend off enemy Alejandro Sosa's (Paul Shenar) assassins in order to protect Tony, holding them off with a submachine gun. Once he runs out of ammunition, he bangs on Tony's office door and begs to be let in before being killed by the assailants. He is the last of Tony's crew to be killed, leaving the kingpin all alone.
