Daytime television was truly a Different World when the soap opera of that name first aired in 1964. In those early years, there were more than a dozen daytime dramas on television, and they weren't just a handful you could count on one hand.
The Official History of Another World
Created by famed soap producers Irna Phillips and William J. Bell, Another World quickly made a name for itself with its groundbreaking storylines (and groundbreaking expansion to hour-long episodes) and was the second most popular soap on television for much of the 1970s.
By the late 1990s, however, Another World's audience had dwindled, and NBC canceled the series to make way for Passions, which remains the hottest new daytime drama on television (and will remain so until the premiere of The Gates next year). Amid fan protests, Another World ended on June 25, 1999.
The show's legacy lives on, however. As with other long-running soaps, countless stars and up-and-coming actors have graced the set of Another World. Here are just a few.
