Antony Starr recently commented on his final scene in the season finale of The Boys, calling himself and his superhero friends another, not-so-great group.
The Boys Cast Breaks Down the Season 4 Finale | Antony Starr, Claudia Doumit, Chace Crawford
Speaking to Vulture following The Boys season 4 finale — which premiered today on Prime Video — Starr was asked about his final scene, in which Starr’s Homelander has emerged victorious and is effectively ruling the United States under a presidentially declared state of siege.
In a speech, Homelander promises a safer world and that he will use himself and his army of superheroes to hunt down people he considers "traitors" to the government. According to Starr, the moment was actually concocted on set, with Starr originally planning to say nothing.
"Originally, I just stood in the background and didn't say anything," Starr said. "I think the camera would have gone right past Calhoun and just looked at me with a smile of satisfaction. But my instincts were that Calhoun is a bought-and-paid-for puppet, and Homelander's ego is going to demand that he be up front. I said to Eric, 'Mate, it's so in character for Homie to push this guy out of the way and say, 'This is what's really going to happen.'" Eric went all out with it. Even though we didn't hear much of what he said, just the physicality of him coming in, interrupting and pushing him out of the way says it all."
