During the pilot episode of the program “Malacañang Insider” on Monday (August 5), DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said the government should come up with “more responsive and timely” policies to tackle cyber crimes. He said a comprehensive law would be easier to enforce compared to numerous specific laws.
“We need a new law. We need a more comprehensive law instead of piecemeal legislation that addresses small or specific items, for example, an anti-scam law, an anti-misinformation law, an anti-deepfake law or something like that,” Uy said.
He cited Singapore, which has a law called the 'Online Harm Law' that covers all crimes committed online.
