Last week, Apple unveiled a slew of new products and features, including a new iPhone and Apple Watch, plus updates to the Air Pods and Apple Intelligence. Today, it’s the Apple Vision Pro’s time to shine, either because it has enough new specs to warrant a separate announcement or because it’s the stepchild of Apple’s product lineup.
Besides Meta and Apple Vision Pro, I saw the future of AR glasses
Despite Apple’s storied track record of products that have disrupted, dominated, and reshaped their respective markets, the Apple Vision Pro hasn’t exactly set the XR industry alight since its launch. That’s not to say the Vision Pro hasn’t had an impact – it’s just one that Apple likely didn’t expect or want.
The Vision Pro launched in February to mixed but optimistic reviews. The headset initially boasted some impressive specs, namely its high-res micro-OLED display and compatibility with the wider Apple product ecosystem. But when it came to entertainment, particularly gaming — a key draw for most consumers interested in headsets — the options were lacking compared to other models.
While the Vision Pro shipped with Apple's new immersive video format and 3D versions of blockbusters like "Dune" and "Avatar: the Way of Water" upon launch, Apple's hands-off approach to developing non-mobile app games for its products appeared to result in a lack of games available for the headset.
