The Interior Ministry has announced a nationwide curfew that will take effect at 6:00 p.m. (12:00 GMT) on Sunday, the first time it has taken such a measure during the ongoing protests that began last month.
The unrest, which has prompted the government to shut down internet services, is the biggest test since deadly protests erupted after Hasina won a fourth straight term in January, an election boycotted by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Critics of Hasina, as well as human rights groups, accuse her government of using excessive force to suppress the movement. Both Hasina and her ministers deny this charge.
