"The Father" wins best adapted screenplay | 93rd Oscars
The French National Film Commission has presented its renewed and expanded Oscar committee, chaired by Charles Tesson, the former artistic director of Cannes Critics' Week.
In addition to Tesson, the committee includes Audrey Diwan, director of “Emmanuelle,” who won the Venice Golden Lion in 2021 for “Happening”; acclaimed French playwright, director and producer Florian Zeller (“The Father”); former Lionsgate boss Patrick Wachsberger; international sales veterans Carole Baraton of Charades and Gregoire Melin of Kinology; influential French distributor Michèle Halberstadt of ARP Selection; producers Rosalie Varda (“Faces Places”) of Ciné-Tamaris, Nadim Cheikhroua (“Olfa’s Daughters”) and David Thion (“Anatomy of a Fall”) at Les Films Pelléas; and actor Clemence Poesy.
The committee, appointed by French Culture Minister Rachida Dati, faces the difficult task of choosing the French film best suited to earn the country its first Oscar win for best international feature film in more than three decades. Indeed, the committee was expanded from seven to 11 members and five alternates earlier this year following the backlash over the rejection of “Anatomy of a Fall.” And unlike in previous years, the members will remain in place for two years.
