Nava Mau said the Emmy nomination for her breakthrough role in Baby Reindeer is a victory for the transgender acting community.
Mau played Teri on the hit Netflix series and is the first trans woman in Emmy history to win an award for Supporting Actress in a Short Series or Anthology Film.
Speaking to Deadline shortly after her nomination, Mau laughed that she cried for 45 minutes out of “overwhelming joy.” She added that it was proof that trans actors can exceed expectations when given the right opportunities.
