Senator Risa Hontiveros has called on the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to humanely treat the estimated 20,000 foreigners displaced by the ban on Philippine offshore gambling companies (POGO).

According to Hontiveros, both the foreigners working in illegal POGOs and those working in legal Internet Gaming Licenses (IGLs) are victims of human trafficking.
“Mukhang mas marami ang mga iligal na POGO kan mas malaking hamon ito para sa ating mga ahensya na mapaalis sila sa bansa,” Hontiveros said on Thursday (July 25).
“Nevertheless, we must ensure humanitarian treatment of foreign workers, especially those who may have ended up in these legal or illegal POGOs/IGLs,” she added.
