People of #Bangladesh will welcome a benevolent autocrat: M Sarwar Hossain | #sheikhhasina #elections
Bangladeshi filmmaker Maksud Hossain will unveil his debut feature, "Saba," at the Toronto Film Festival. The film tells the story of a young woman who is the sole caregiver for her paralyzed mother in Dhaka.
The project was born out of personal experience. Hossain’s wife Trilora Khan has been the primary caregiver for her paralyzed mother for 25 years after a car accident. After his father-in-law suddenly passed away from COVID-19, Hossain and Khan, who co-wrote the script, began developing a story about a lower-middle-class woman in Dhaka who faces challenges of caregiving without family or financial support.
“We started thinking what if we told the story of a young woman, Saba, who lives in the lower middle class of Dhaka, taking care of her paralyzed mother alone, with no family, no money. What would Saba do in a situation like this to ensure that her mother stays alive at all costs?” Hossain told Variety.
