Louis Theroux's Mindhouse Behind 'America's New Female Right' for BBC
Louis Theroux's Mindhouse is making a documentary about American women's right for the BBC. America's New Female Right will meet a new wave of women who are using social media platforms and podcasts to defend extreme views on social media, including content that is increasingly shocking and anti-feminist. The British journalist Layla Wright, a BBC Three presenter, travels from Nashville to the Arizona-Mexico border, where she immerses herself in the ultra-conservative influencers who see themselves as the frontline of a war on progressive politics. Wright is Creator in Residence at Theroux's indie and has worked with with the acclaimed documentary filmmaker on the project. “I wanted to meet the women who had suddenly taken over my social media feeds and were posting increasingly incendiary content — girls my age with huge online platforms who seemed nostalgic for a time when women had fewer rights,” Wright said. “I was surprised at how unapologetically controversial they were and despite living just a plane ride away, the views they promoted seemed worlds away from me and my friends back home.”
