BBC commentator misgenderes Raven Saunders, US shot putter enters competition wearing mask and sunglasses
A BBC Olympics commentator was corrected live on air this morning by his co-host for failing to use the preferred pronouns for US shot putter Raven Saunders.
Former Team GB javelin thrower Steve Backley repeatedly referred to Saunders as 'her' during coverage of the women's shot put qualifying event at the Stade de France in Paris on Thursday.
Saunders, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Games, identifies as non-binary and uses the pronouns they/them, a point Backley's co-host Jazmin Sawyers made during the broadcast.
