Former BBC news presenter Huw Edwards pleads guilty to making indecent images of children | BBC News
The BBC has admitted it knew Huw Edwards had been arrested for making indecent images of children five months before he left the organisation on “medical advice” in April 2024.
A BBC spokesperson issued its first statement on the matter several days after Edwards was charged, and on the day he pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates Court, saying that the BBC had been “informed in confidence that he had been arrested on suspicion of serious criminal offences and had been released on bail while police continued their investigation.” This was in November.
“At the time, no charges had been brought against Mr Edwards and the BBC had also been made aware of the significant risk to his health,” said the spokesperson, whose letter was shared with BBC staff.
