More details have emerged about the firing of X-Men '97 creator Beau DeMayo.
BREAKING! WHY BEAU DEMAYO WAS FIRED FROM X-MEN 97 – Official Statement from Marvel Studios
In March 2024, DeMayo was fired as lead writer of X-Men '97 after wrapping work on the first two seasons of the Disney+ series. Marvel did not give a reason for DeMayo's firing at the time.
On Thursday, August 15, 2024, DeMayo claimed that his writing credit for X-Men '97 had been stripped after he posted X-Men fan art on Instagram for Gay Pride. DeMayo wrote, "I'll have more to say soon, but I need to take a step back from social media to find a safer place to come out, be proud, and be nerdy. Stay tuned."
Marvel responded in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: "Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we immediately severed ties with him and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."
