"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," the first sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 classic, enters its second weekend on Friday, fresh off a $111 million debut weekend, the third-best domestic opening of the year.
It would be easy to think that it's high time everything got a sequel. After all, Universal's "Twisters" was one of the best films of the summer, despite having little connection to its predecessor beyond the plural form of the title.
But there are more re-releases coming in the coming months, perhaps reminding us that dusting off old intellectual property for a new try doesn't always work.
