In October 2021, authorities arrested a Utah man named Jason Lytton on charges of child sexual exploitation. Reports indicate that authorities found 1,000 explicit images of young girls on Lytton’s phone. The Hulu documentary Betrayal: A Father’s Secret explores the harrowing case in detail. It also reveals how Lytton’s wife, Ashley Lytton, discovered her husband’s secret. The documentary will stream exclusively on Hulu on Tuesday, July 30.
ABC News reported that authorities learned of Jason Lytton's crimes when a person informed them of the explicit images. The outlet reported that he spoke to Lytton's brother before speaking to police. Lytton contacted the man who had seen the images and confessed to possessing child pornography, at which point police obtained a search warrant and searched his phone. Detectives subsequently discovered several nude photos of young girls and videos of child pornography. According to another ABC News report, police arrested Jason Lytton and charged him with multiple charges, including 10 second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
However, Jason Lytton accepted a plea deal and received a minimum sentence. According to the plea deal, the court found Lytton guilty of one count of sexual exploitation and two counts of voyeurism. ABC News reported that the offender was given credit for time already served and was sentenced to 329 days in jail. Jason Lytton is currently free and living in Herriman, Utah. He is also a registered sex offender, according to the Daily Mail.
