Biden holds press conference amid calls to withdraw from 2024 race | full coverage
UPDATE: During his nearly hour-long press conference, Joe Biden countered perceptions of cognitive decline by diving into the details of complex national security situations. He insisted he would “move on” in the presidential race, though he left the door somewhat open to a way out. opened when he saw that there was “no way” he could win. And he raised his voice at one point to address gun violence, a contrast to the weak, gravelly tone of his disastrous debate with Donald Trump.
But minutes after the president speaks, Democratic lawmakers are calling on him to withdraw from the race. Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) is the latest.
"It's not really about tonight," Himes told MSNBC host Alex Wagner. "And one of the really sick things about this moment is that we're watching every speech, every rally, every debate, and saying, 'How did he do today? done?' And that's just not the way to think about the presidency of the United States."
