Borderlands premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 6, and will open in theaters in the U.S. and internationally on Friday, August 9. However, disastrous Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores suggest the film has struggled.
Borderlands Rotten Tomatoes Reviews Are Worse Than We Could Have Imagined
At the time of writing, Borderlands holds a disastrous 0% approval rating after 23 reviews on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average to rate a film, Borderlands holds a score of 32 out of 100 after 10 reviews, indicating a "generally unfavorable" response.
ComingSoon's Jonathan Sim called Borderlands "borderline unwatchable," adding, "The film may not lay claim to the title of worst blockbuster of the year (that honor belongs to Madame Web), but it certainly disappoints in its lack of entertainment value."
IGN's Matt Donato called the film "a terrible waste of a beloved franchise [Borderlands is based on the Gearbox Software video game series of the same name] that takes a crazed group of murderous misfits and sucks the life out of their first adventure together."
