British MPs voted overwhelmingly on Monday to revoke the parliamentary pass of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, approving a damning report that found Johnson lied to parliament about parties breaking the Covid lockdown.
UK Politics: Conservative MP claims PM 'rushed out of office' because of parties
After hours of debate, held on Johnson's 59th birthday, MPs voted 354 to 7 in favour of the Privileges Committee's findings. Many Conservatives, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, abstained.
During the debate, MPs and a former prime minister lined up to urge their colleagues to censure Johnson. Johnson walked out of parliament when he was told of the findings.
Johnson's predecessor Theresa May said the vote would be “a small but important step in restoring people's confidence” in parliament.
