Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to Britney Spears' critically acclaimed #1 New York Times Bestseller The Woman in Me , a project that Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu is attached to develop and direct. Talk about a highly coveted role for any actress — established or frosh: playing a multi-platinum recording artist who falls from grace, only to rise again from her Mississippi-Louisiana roots that started in the 1990s with "…Baby One More Time" to her rebirth in the early 2000s with "Piece of Me" after becoming tabloid fodder.
. Spears originally signed a $15 million book deal in 2022, making it one of the biggest book deals of all time. The book follows her rise to fame, her conservatorship, and her newfound freedom.
