The feud began at AEW All Out when Bryan Danielson retained his title against Jack Perry. After the match, tensions rose when Christian Cage appeared to cash in on his title shot. At that point, Jon Moxley, along with Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and Pac, interfered. However, in a shocking turn of events, Moxley and Castagnoli turned on Danielson and attacked him.
Following the betrayal, Jon Moxley defeated Allin on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, making Moxley the new number one contender for Danielson's AEW World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleDream 2024.
