Cartoon Network has closed its website | What does this mean for the future of the channel?
Warner Bros. Discovery took down all content on cartoonnetwork.com this week — redirecting visitors to a landing page on Max, the subscription streaming service, and encouraging fans to sign up to watch their favorite Cartoon Network shows. The site's closure appears to have occurred on Thursday, August 8.
“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? See what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required),” a pop-up message on the new Max landing page reads. “Sign up for Max, where you can also create a Kids Profile with rating restrictions and added privacy protections to keep it fun and kid-friendly! Cable subscribers, keep enjoying your favorite CN programming on your TV and connected apps!”
In a statement, a Cartoon Network spokesperson told Variety, “We are focusing on the Cartoon Network shows and social media where we see consumers engaging the most and where there is meaningful potential for growth.” The representative noted that Cartoon Network will continue to offer 11 hours of programming daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on linear TV.
