EXCLUSIVE: Jon Koa is stepping down as CBS's EVP of Comedy Development after three years. He won't be replaced, but that's not a sign that CBS, which has a deep comedy tradition, is backing away from the genre.
As Deadline reported in January, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and current Paramount Global co-CEO George Cheeks, CBS President and CEO, had been carefully examining the network's development strategy.
That review already resulted in a move to long-term development. Now, CBS is also streamlining all scripted programming development under EVP Drama Development Yelena Chak, who will also oversee comedy development in her new role as EVP Scripted Development, with the comedy team reporting to her. There will be no designated heads of comedy and drama going forward.
