Dr. Charles' (Oliver Platt) flashback to the past has officially arrived with photos from the Season 9 premiere of Chicago Med.
Charles and Ripley's complicated past causes friction | Chicago Med | NBC
As the logline for "Row Row Row Your Boat on a Rocky Sea," airing Jan. 17, teases, Charles can't shake the feeling that he knows the new Emergency Department. The footage, which you can see above and below, offers a look at Luke Mitchell's debut as Dr. Mitch Ripley, who has a "troubled past" and a history with Charles. We'll have to tune in to see how much of that past we hear in the premiere and what we'll have to wait to discover in future episodes. (The ER is getting a new doctor after Med said goodbye to Nick Gehlfuss' Will in the finale and Brian Tee's Ethan earlier in Season 8.)
In the premiere, the ER is also flooded with patients who've been in an accident, and the entire team is called in to help. Plus, Archer (Steven Weber) is having second thoughts on the eve of his kidney transplant. The last time we saw Archer's son Sean (Luigi Sottile), he was a match, but after falling off the wagon, he couldn't donate; he needs to be sober for six months. At the time, Archer's plan was to follow Asher's (Jessy Schram) suggestion for another dialysis, and it seems to have worked. Archer's doubts might explain what we see in the images of him and Asher below.
