Chinese war drama A Lonely Hero's Journey, starring Joseph Zeng, Zhang Songwen and Chen Duling, released its first batch of episodes on August 6, 2024. The drama tells the story of Gu Yizhong (Joseph Zeng), who becomes the face of protest against Japanese oppression in his hometown of Suzhou. Episode two focuses on him managing to escape the clutches of the military police.

In this episode, Gu Yizhong and his fellow party members are lined up to be shot. When it is Yizhong’s turn, the next prisoner suddenly manages to grab the police officer’s hand, giving Yizhong the chance to escape. Without thinking much about it, Yizhong runs away and somehow barely escapes by jumping off the bridge.

Meanwhile, Yizhong’s father arrives at the scene with his men to rescue him. They search thoroughly among the dead prisoners, but can find no trace of Yizhong. After asking around, they find out that he has run away. Meanwhile, Ruitong bumps into Gu Huizhong. They discuss how it is impossible that all their hideouts were raided on the same day. The duo comes to the joint conclusion that there is a spy among them.

They both suspect that the commander is the one who leaked the news. Although it is against the rules to exchange information, Ruotong reveals that it is Eagle who is in charge of their operation. When she hears his name, Huizhong becomes restless because her husband has left the house to meet him.
