Assistant Justice Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano IV apologized on Wednesday (June 21) for describing former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag as a former police officer.

“I would like to correct my mistake and clarify that Mr. Bantag did not serve in the Philippine National Police but is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy,” he said.
Clavano said in an interview with ANC on Tuesday (June 20) that locating Bantag has been “difficult” because he is “also a police officer” and “also has a certain network within the police”.
“I regret any confusion this has caused and hope this clarification clears up any misunderstandings,” a Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesman said Wednesday.
