The Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Tuesday reminded government agencies to strictly enforce rules regarding the ban on smoking in government buildings and premises.
Health effects of government tobacco control policies: what is the evidence?
According to Karlo Nograles, president of the CSC, this is not only in the interest of civil servants, but also of all persons who visit government offices.
Nograles said that CSC Memorandum Circular 17, s. 2009, or the smoking ban based on a 100% smoke-free environment, remains in effect.
The MC absolutely prohibits smoking in the buildings and premises of government agencies providing health, education and/or social welfare and development services, such as hospitals, health centres, schools, universities and colleges, etc. This means that no smoking areas shall be designated or established in these places.
