Dateline 20/20 Death of Michelle Reynolds
In July 2004, authorities discovered the dead body of a man named Thad Reynolds outside his workplace in northwest Georgia. Some media outlets reported that the killer had stabbed him multiple times after the victim reached the distribution center where he worked. Police launched an investigation and arrested two people for the murder. One of the arrests was Reynolds' wife, Michelle Reynolds, and the other was Reverend Scott Harper. The gruesome murder case will be featured on this week's episode of Dateline: Unforgettable, airing Thursday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
According to WSB-TV Atlanta, authorities arrested Michelle Reynolds and Scott Harper just days after the murder. According to police, the killer stabbed Thad Reynolds 19 times. The Rome News-Tribune reported that the killer attacked him as he was near his car. Investigators noted that one of Reynolds' coworkers found his body on the ground and called 911. After police arrived on the scene, they discovered a hunting knife sheath next to the victim's car. Additionally, a witness told investigators that they saw a red minivan leaving around the time of the crime.
WSB-TV quoted officials as saying that Reynolds' wife had an extramarital affair with Harper after they met at the church they both attended. They began a relationship and planned to kill Thad Reynolds. Meanwhile, WFMY News noted that the duo met and used various means of communication to plan the murder. Four years later, in October 2008, Harper pleaded guilty to the murder of Thad Reynolds and took a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. In January 2010, Michelle Reynolds also pleaded guilty to the murder. Both suspects were sentenced to death and are serving their respective sentences in Georgia prisons.
