Deadpool & Wolverine | Billion with a B
UPDATED: Deadpool & Wolverine officially passed the $1B worldwide box office milestone this weekend, with $1.029B+ through Sunday. The Marvel/Disney Marvel international box office portion is $535.2M and domestic is $494.3M, for a total of $1.029.5M.
By reaching and surpassing the coveted milestone, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starring trilogy will become only the second American R-rated film ever to do so – following 2019’s Joker. Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to surpass Joker’s $1.079 billion gross by the end of this week, becoming the biggest R-rated film of all time worldwide and adding to its list of records. D&W reached $1 billion faster than Joker, despite the latter film not being released in China. This is also Disney’s second billion-dollar gross this year after Inside Out 2 , and only the second film of 2024 to do so.
With D&W and IO2, Disney remains the only studio ever to have back-to-back $1 billion releases in a single year. In total, 55 titles in the industry have surpassed the $1 billion mark, with 31 of those coming from Disney (including three Fox titles). The Marvel Cinematic Universe has 11 (including two from Sony). Marvel Studios is responsible for more $1 billion+ films than any other studio outside of The Walt Disney Studios itself.
